James's Obituary
James Edward Whitelow, 81, of Benton Harbor, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at home with his family at his side.
James was born on September 12, 1942, in Ridgley, TN. Following graduation, James honorably served in the United States Army from 1964-1966. Professionally, he dedicated over 30 years to Michigan Gas Utility Company as a Service Technician. He also owned and operated Jim’s Heating Services for over 30 years, starting his business in 1987. On November 19, 1964, he married Barbara Jean Burks.
Jim was an avid golfer and loved traveling. His most cherished moments were spent being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Barbara Whitelow; children Charlotte Burks, Darrell Johnson, Sr., Vicky (Johnny) Young, Venus Whitelow, Vennise (Carvel) Roseburgh and Viva Whitelow-Hudson; 29 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Nathanial Whitelow, Sr.; sisters, Delores Arterbridge, Mary Jane McFarland and Kathy Whitelow-Daughtrey. He was preceded in death by his father, James (Emma) Whitelow, Sr; mother, Lucille Arterbridge; daughter, Veronica Burks; siblings, Earl, Carolyn, Jerry, John, David Sr. Whitelow, sister-in-law Sandra Burks, and brother-in-law Tony Burks, among other family members.
A private family service will be held with interment in North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma, MI. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks-Menchinger Chapel, St. Joseph, 269-556-9450. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
