Hugh E. White, 82, of Fenwick, Michigan, passed away, Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at Provision Living in St. Joseph, Michigan.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be planned and announced at a later date at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Belding, Michigan. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Belding. Memorial donations in Hugh’s name may be made to Centrica Navigators Hospice, Alvah N. Belding Memorial Library or Belding Children’s Museum. Hugh was born November 19, 1942 in Carson City, Michigan to Don & Erminie (Olmsted) White. He graduated from Saranac High School, Class of 1960 and in July Hugh enlisted in the US Navy, serving at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland. Hugh returned to school and earned his Bachelor Degree from Grand Valley State University. On January 8, 1966, he married the former Katherine Shannon in Belding. Hugh’s career was spent in the insurance industry, retiring from Foremost Insurance Company after twenty-five years.
Hugh was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Belding. In his free time, he enjoyed taking care of his home and flower gardens and studying the family genealogy. Family was most important to him. He never missed one of his boy’s hockey games. Hugh enjoyed spending winter months at Hilton Head Island, and most of all, the time spent with his family, especially his four grandchildren.
Hugh is survived by his wife Katherine; his sons-Heath (Tina) White of Zeeland, MI, Ryan (Charity) White of St. Joseph; four grandchildren-Cooper, Maxwell, Brendan & Charlotte White; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law-Mary White, Miriam White, Wanda Shannon, Pat (Mary Anne) Shannon, Mary Helen (Tom) Haarman & Tony Zakrajsek, and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded by his parents, three brothers-Don, Ned & Foss White, and in-laws-Avis White, Martin Shannon & Callie Zakrajsek.
