Horst H. Kemper, 87, of Stevensville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 22, 2024.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the Oakridge Community Church, 766 Oakridge Drive, St. Joseph, with Pastor Scott Reeve officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00AM until the time of the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Oakridge Community Church or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Horst was born on July 4 ,1936, in Zehden, Poland, to Heinrich & Freida (Jadyschke) Kemper. He became a master carpenter in Germany and built furniture and cabinets. One of the greatest days of his life was January 29,1967, when he moved his family to the free world of the USA to start a new life, with his wife Hanna, who preceded him in 1991, two daughters, Christel and Heike, and only $200.00 and a crate of belongings. On June 3, 1995, Horst married Hilda Schwarz. He was a man who could fix anything and his favorite saying was “There is nothing that can’t be fixed”. He had a true servant’s heart and enjoyed singing, playing the harmonica, and eating at the church buffet. But mostly he loved the Lord. He found nothing more important than his daily devotions to God before sunrise.
He is survived by his wife Hilda, daughter Christel (Alan) Ramsey of Benton Harbor, son-in-law David Powers of Bridgman, daughter Brenda (Don) Brunke of Sawyer, step-daughter Bonita (Doug) Frobel of St. Joseph, step-son David (Angie) Schwarz of Buchanan; six grandchildren- Brian (Merry) Ramsey, Justin Ramsey, Aaron (Rachael) Ramsey, Blair (Brandi) Powers, Luke (Emily) Frobel, Samuel (Jasmine) Frobel; eight great- grandchildren, Benjaman, Mason, Monroe, Walton, Willow, Jonah, Gwendolyn and Ella; and sister Elfriede Kemper on Germany.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Hanna in 1991 and daughter Heike Powers on Dec 6, 2021.
