Lyle's Obituary
Henry "Lyle" Taylor, 88, of Dowagiac, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph, Ml. He was born on January 4, 1936 in Decatur, Ml, the son of the late Henry and Annabelle (Barnhart) Taylor. On September 12, 1959, Lyle was united in marriage to Patsy Reist in Decatur.
Lyle was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked as a meat cutter and was employed by several grocery stores throughout his career, but is most remembered from Northside Grocery, where he worked for over 20 years. Lyle was a charter member of the Dowagiac Homing Pigeon Club and longtime member of the Dowagiac Lions Club. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed hunting with his deer hunting group. Lyle looked forward to always attending the annual Taylor Family Christmas party on the first Sunday of December.
Surviving are two children, Candy (John) Cooper and Steve (Debbie) Taylor both of Dowagiac; seven grandchildren, Andee Taylor, Jeff Cooper, Drew Cooper, Erika File, Danielle Hyatt, Brittany Herman and Abbi Gnatz; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ardith VandenBerg and Carolyn Reits; brother-in-law, Ed Reist; three sisters-in-law, Judy Madaras, Jackie Carpenter and Sherry Duvall; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his wife of 63 years, Patsy; and his parents.
A Memorial Gathering to celebrate Lyle's life will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, August 11, at Clark Chapel - Starks Family Funeral Homes, 405 Center Street, Dowagiac.
