Helen's Obituary
A prayer service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 1:30 PM, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 12PM until the time of the service at 1:30PM. Following the service, friends and family are invited for a luncheon at the Elks Lodge, 601 Riverview Dr., Benton Harbor. Helen was born on April 18, 1925, to Harold & Otillia (Fleischer) Lane in Chicago. She graduated from St. Sebastian High School. On October 19, 1945, Helen married Robert G. Haskins in Chicago. She worked as an office manager for a commercial real estate company for over 30 years before she retired at the age of 81. She was a long time member of Saint Bartholomew catholic church in Chicago and later a member of Saint Bernards catholic church in Benton Harbor. She was an honorary member, “Mama Helen”, of the St. Joe/Benton Harbor Elks Lodge #541. Mama Helen was a genuinely kind, caring, and witty woman who will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Helen is survived by her daughter Dr. Diana (John Ziaziaris) Haskins of St. Joseph; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents Harold & Otillia Lane; husband Robert Haskins; children, Linda Fisher (Robert), Lawrence Haskins, and Robert Haskins Jr.; and siblings, Marian (Charles) Zlabis, Dorothy (Edward) Flesch, and Richard (Joyce) Lane.
