Helen's Obituary
Helen graduated from Logan High School in LaCrosse, WI where she played trombone in the high school band. While growing up in LaCrosse, she attended Trinity Lutheran Church and was baptized, confirmed and married there. Helen had many happy memories of family, spending time at her grandparents' farm in Ettrick and fishing with her parents on the Mississippi.
Helen married Donald Ranum in 1947, and they had a long and happy marriage. Helen resided in St. Joseph, MI at the time of her death, where she and Donald spent a large portion of their 60-year marriage, prior to Donald's retirement from Whirlpool Corporation. She was a dedicated mother of 3 children, Mark Ranum, Torre Ranum Froehlich Welch and Julie Ranum Troupe.
Helen attended her children's countless sporting events when Mark played baseball and basketball, Torre played tennis and ran track as a state champion, and Julie was a #1 singles player in tennis. She was a dedicated spectator at her grandchildren's soccer, basketball and equestrian events.
Helen loved music and enjoyed attending her daughters' and grandson's band concerts. Her favorite memories included many years as a Wisconsin Badgers football season ticket holder, attending games with Donald and their children and grandchildren.
Helen was totally devoted to family and proud of her Norwegian heritage. She lived a happy and blessed life with dignity and good spirit. Her legacy of a loving and giving heart will live on through her family.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald in 2007 and her brother, Gordon Peterson in 2022.
She is survived by her son, Mark Ranum (Christy); daughter, Torre Welch (George); daughter, Julie Troupe (Dee); nephew, Craig Porter (partner Denise); niece, Debra Phillipi (Mark) and niece, Barbara Graves (Michael).
She is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Kiersten Ranum Muraca, Kelsey Ranum, Daniel Froehlich and Kristine Froehlich and 4 great grandchildren (Kiersten): Zephyn, Deklyn, Jaxstyn and Anakyn as well as many relatives in the LaCrosse area from the Peterson and Osley families.
A visitation will be held at 11 AM at the Oak Grove Cemetary Chapel followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM, with her burial immediately after on December 13, 2024, at Oak Grove Cemetery in LaCrosse.
