Glen's Obituary

Glen L. Carlson, 83, of Buchanan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, surrounded by his family at home.

A private family burial has taken place at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan. Memorial contributions in Glen’s name may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to Swem Chapel, Buchanan. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.swemchapel.com.

Glen was born on September 11, 1938, to Iver and Ruth (Olson) Carlson in Evergreen Park, IL. He graduated from Buchanan High School, class of 1956. Glen honorably served in the United States Army from 1962-1965. On February 1, 1974, he married Nina J. DeLay in St. Joseph, MI. Professionally, Glen continued to work in the family business as a third-generation contractor for Carlson’s.

Glen enjoyed spending time outdoors in nature. He could usually be found watching the birds at his backyard feeders. One place he loved spending time was the beach, where he would look for unusual rocks or driftwood. Glen was an artist. He enjoyed sketching and creating wooden carvings. He also found completing crosswords and puzzles entertaining. Most of all, Glen took joy in spending time with his family. This was especially true of the time that he spent with his three granddaughters.

Glen is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nina Carlson; daughter, Robin (Mike) Staup; son, Christopher (Rachel) Carlson; granddaughters, Cameron, Melanie and Riley Carlson; and sister, Ruth Diane Carlson; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Iver and Ruth Carlson; his brothers, Jerry Carlson and Roger Carlson; and his sister Joyce Weaver.
