Fredrick DeLoss “Pat” Patrick III, 86, of Decatur, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at MediLodge of Kalamazoo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 51841 Leach Rd., Dowagiac, MI. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dowagiac Conservation Club. Pat was born on April 26, 1938, to Fredrick, Jr. and Elaine (Snyder) Patrick in Three Rivers. After graduating from Three Rivers High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Pat served as an Airman 2nd Class in the Air Force Band until his Honorable Discharge, allowing him to travel globally while pursuing his passion in music.
On April 28, 1965, he married Barbara Ball at St Augustine Cathedral in Kalamazoo.
A talented musician, Pat was proficient on numerous instruments, notably the upright bass, trombone, and euphonium. Throughout his life, he performed with many professional and community bands and ensembles across the country. Eventually Pat went back to school, earning his Bachelor’s from Western Michigan University and his Master’s in Music Therapy from the University of Kansas.
Pat continued to dedicate his life to music, teaching at Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL; Mt. St. Joseph on the Ohio in Cincinnati, OH; Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR; and Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac, MI. He was also a private lesson teacher throughout his life. During his employment with The Woodwind and Brasswind in South Bend, IN, as a salesman; he was the Euphonium Specialist. Pat was also an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying foraging, hunting, fishing, working in his garden, and supporting the Dowagiac Conservation Club at their Wild Game Dinners.
Pat is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Patrick; children, Angela (Gerald Kizer) Patrick, Shaun Patrick; granddaughter, Anna Babbitt; and siblings, Coleen Rudd, Michael Patrick, and David Patrick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick Jr. and Elaine Patrick; and daughter, Melissa (Rick) Schultz.
