Emily was born at home in Sodus, Michigan on June 7, 1937, the youngest of William and Hulda (Arndt) Kuyat’s four children. She attended Benton Harbor High School where she was crowned Miss Eau Claire 1955 prior to graduating that year. On December 17, 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, David L. Baushke, who was serving in the Air Force. Together they had two children—Mark and Susan. The couple were incredible dancers, and especially enjoyed the jitterbug. She and Dave enjoyed 30 years of marriage until his passing in 1986.

Emily worked for the research and development division of the then Whirlpool-Seeger Corporation. After stepping away to raise her two children, she returned to Whirlpool and worked in various departments until her retirement in 1992.

Demonstrating her strong Christian beliefs, family focus and drive for helping others, Emily volunteered for Hospice At Home for a decade following retirement. Always an upbeat, cheerful person, she was a catalyst for happiness for everyone she met, uplifting and encouraging them to weather the storm and be their best. When not volunteering, her greatest joy was spending time with her family—golfing, attending her children’s music and theatre performances, and traveling. Travel highlights included visiting Germany with the entire family, as well as Hawaii, Alaska, The Holy Land and the United Kingdom with her siblings. Other passions included gardening, reading, music and enjoying St. Joseph’s beaches and local sunsets.

Emily is survived by her son, Mark Baushke of Sunnyvale, CA; and daughter, Susan (Steven Arvanites) Baushke of Des Plaines, IL; her sister, Frieda Williams of St Joseph, MI; sisters-in-law, Ester Kuyat of Sodus, MI; Shirley Sink of St. Joseph, MI; and Sandy Baushke of Baroda, MI.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Hulda Kuyat of Sodus, MI; husband, David L. Baushke of St. Joseph, MI; brother Carl Kuyat of Sodus, MI; sister Clara Dansfield of Benton Harbor, MI; and brothers-in-law Kenneth William II (Bill) Baushke of Lakeland, FL; and Riley Williams of St. Joseph, MI.
