Edwin's Obituary
Edwin Albert Homolka, Jr., 83, of New Buffalo, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 5, 2024 in the presence of Yvonne, Maggie, Adam and Shelley.
Ed was born in Chicago, IL and grew up in Cicero, IL. Parents Edwin and Elsie, met at a Sokol (Bohemian gymnastics club). Summers were spent in New Buffalo from the age of three months in a cottage built by his grandfather. After living in Chicago, Cleveland and White Plains, NY, the family moved to New Buffalo when Maggie was two years old (1976) and built a house on Riviera Road and enjoyed the beach and spending time with family (spouse, Yvonne; daughter, Maggie; son, Adam) digging huge holes and walking to the mud pits. Maggie now lives in Naperville, IL with son, Zachary, and daughter, Chloe. Adam (Shelley) live in Lowell, MI with sons, Lincoln, Benjamin, Isaiah and daughter, Adelyn.
Ed has a terrific family of nephews and nieces as well: Michael (Renee) Graf (children Eric and Amelia; Daniel (Diann) Graf (daughter, Alysa (Eric) Tyahla; David (Cindy) Graf (sons Spencer (fiancé, Sierra) and Carter); Tina (Jack) LeGeune; Michele Sparks; Danielle (Erik) Bradford (children Mallorie, Jazmine, Caleb); Jennifer (Derek) Smith (children Amaya and Brooklyn); Justin LeGeune (children Briggs and Remi).
After graduating from Morton High School, he attended the University of Illinois and graduated with an Industrial Engineering degree. He served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam and never failed to honor the American Flag. He was involved in community organizations (Lions, Masons) and a member of the Three Oaks United Methodist Church.
Ed had a dry sense of humor which many did not understand and was loyal to his family/friends. He will be greatly missed.
Special thanks to the Caring Circle Hospice Team – every staff member went beyond to make Ed comfortable.
In lieu of flowers, the Three Oaks United Methodist Church would be honored to receive any offering in Ed’s memory.
Memorial Service will be at a later date.
