Edna May's Obituary

Edna May Fruge’ born August 13,1935 In Atlantic City, New Jersey to the late Julian and Edna Aurthur Taylor. Edna was a twin to her brother Raymond Taylor. She was educated in the Atlantic City Public School system.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal lord and savior at a very young age as a member of the Asbury Methodist Church in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Edna was united in holy matrimony to Lindford Holland and to this union three daughters were born; Cheryl McCray, Stephanie Holland Allwood and Monica Holland.

Edna later moved to Covert Michigan and she was then remarried to the late Willis Fruge’ and was blessed with a blended family; Marian Fruge’ Mitchell, Willice Fruge’ and Erick Fruge.

Ministry / Servanthood:

Edna was known for performing in various Gospel Choirs and Musical Concerts throughout her life.

As a young girl living in Atlantic City, New Jersey Edna along with her sisters were affectionately known to many as "The Taylor Sisters" a gospel group who were requested to perform at many events and churches throughout New Jersey, singing God's praises and worship.

While residing in Michigan, she attended Tabernacle Baptist Church where she served in ministry as a pianist for the youth choir. She later attended Covert Community Church where she served as the Choir Director.

Edna’s final ministry of services was with First Baptist Church in South Haven Michigan were she continued to be a part of the music ministry.

Honors/Awards

Edna was the recipient of the Black History Award of service from the Van Buren District.

WORK HISTORY:

Edna worked at the high-end Atlantic City luxury department store Homberger’s as a dress designer. Her and her mother were both designers/seamstresses. Edna’s highlight during her employment there was meeting Eartha Kit along with so many other celebrities.

During her time in Covert Michigan, she worked for the Covert Public School District as a bus driver and taught seamstress classes for the Covert Summer School Program. She later retired from many years of service as a Seamstress from the South Haven Rehabilitation Center.

Her Life & Family Legacy

So it was, after standing on life's runaway for 89 years, she had watched love ones come and go. On Wednesday, April 16, 2025 she received a call from the chief controller that the runway was clear and she took off and began her heavenly flight.

Although no longer with us her spirit is alive in the hearts of her family Cheryl McCray, Covert Michigan, Stephanie Holland Allwood(Godfrey Allwood) Mt Vernon New York, Monica Holland, Columbus Ohio, Marian Mitchell (Dave Mitchell) Van Buren Township, MI, Willice Fruge’ (Lisa Fruge') Lansing, MI and Erick Fruge’ Detroit Mi.

Two sisters Shirley Means, Henderson, Las Vegas and Miriam Bryant, Covert Michigan. Seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Service will be held at the Filbrandt Chapel,1076 S. Bailey Avenue on Saturday, April 26, with Visitation at 11:00 am. and Funeral Service at 12:00 pm. with Pastor Jerry Koller officiating. Edna will be laid to rest at Covert Cemetery in Covert, Michigan.
