Duwane's Obituary
Duwane E. Hutchings, 72, of Dowagiac, passed away early Saturday morning, December 2, 2023, following a long battle with cancer.
He was born on May 25, 1951, in Paw Paw, MI, the son of Eugene and Margaret (Lawrence) Hutchings. Duwane was a 1970 graduate of Dowagiac Union High School. In February 1971, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served over two years until his Honorable Discharge in July 1973. On March 15, 1974, Duwane was united in marriage to Carol Loft. Duwane enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He loved cooking and getting together for the holidays. Duwane was an avid outdoorsman who also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years – Carol Hutchings; two daughters – Shawn (Jeremy) Starrett and Tracy Hutchings; eight grandchildren – Jordon (Kanami), Nicholas, Arianna, Alexa, Amaya, Ashton, Madison and Jeremy Jr; two great-grandchildren; Kye and Blair; mother – Margaret Hutchings; four siblings – David Hutchings, Dale (Pam) Hutchings, Debbie (Duane) Stover and Rich (Pam) Hutchings; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Preceding him in death were his father – Eugene Hutchings; and grandson – Brendon Hutchings-Cosey.
A memorial service to celebrate Duwane’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 11, 2023 at Dowagiac Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 410 Hill St, Dowagiac. Pastor Tom Shepherd will officiate. Inurnment with military honors will be in Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac. Memorial contributions may be directed to Compassus Hospice.
