David's Obituary
Dave was born September 3rd, 1954, to Wayne and Margie (Polk) Mundy in Evansville, Indiana, the second of three children. He graduated from Boonville High School in 1972 and went on to study at Purdue University, where he met the love of his life, Betty Mundy, during their sophomore year.
In 1976, Dave graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering and he and Betty were married shortly thereafter on June 5th, 1976. They moved to St. Joseph where he started his career with Whirlpool Corporation. During a career that spanned 41 years, Dave worked with the Research and Engineering, Dishwasher Engineering, Cooking, and Connected Appliances groups before retiring in 2017, having been awarded six patents along the way. Dave found great fulfillment in mentoring the next generation of engineers, especially during the last few years of his career.
A longtime member of the First Church of God in St. Joseph, he operated the sound booth for twenty years. Known for his hands-on approach, he was skilled at fixing just about anything or tackling any project. Whether it was working on cars, enjoying country and oldies music, woodworking, gardening, or simply being outdoors, Dave loved staying active and spending time with family. He also had a special fondness for desserts and candies, particularly peanut M&Ms and donuts with the grandkids. One of his most cherished traditions was designing and assembling his model train sets each Christmas, adding new features and longer track every year. He and Betty shared some of their favorite memories on the shores of Lake Michigan in the Leelanau Peninsula during their yearly anniversary trips.
Dave is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty Mundy; sons, Matthew Mundy and Daniel (Jennifer) Mundy; daughter, Sarah (Jarod) Lane; grandchildren, Spencer Mundy, Eleanor Lane and Hadley Lane; sisters, Dianne Boeckman (Norman Hicks) and Donna Mundy; niece, Jessica Boeckman; and dear friends Joe and Sharon Boersma. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Margie Mundy.
