David's Obituary

David M. Fay was born on May 30, 1941, in Buchanan, to Martin E. & Martha G. (Burns) Fay. David passed away peacefully at his home on Monday September 11th, 2023, after a long battle with cancer.
In 1963, David proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He was a part of the 2nd Armor Division of Hell on Wheels. While deployed he earned the awards of Sharpshooter for Rifle, Pistol and SMG as well as, Expert Rifle M-14. David returned home through an honorable discharge in 1965. In May of 1965, he married the love of his life, Yolonna Hanover in Niles, MI. Following his return home, David began working for Buchanan Metal Form as a factory employee. He would later relocate to National Standard, then Clark Equipment and lastly to White Farm Equipment before he would begin his journey as an Owner Operator until retirement in 2017.
David loved spending time vacationing with his family. Quality time spent with his granddaughter while traveling coast to coast as well as watching Monday night RAW with his grandson always put the biggest smile on his face. He was a proud fan of Notre Dame football and NASCAR. David was also a member of Buchanan American Legion Post 51 and AMVETS Post 1978 in Niles.
David is survived by his wife of 58 years, Yolonna; daughter, Jamie (Nathan) Schlutt of Niles; grandchildren, Kyla (Cameron Seifert) Schlutt & Sean Schlutt; brother, Allen (Linda) Fay; son-in-law, Geoffrey Neiswender; and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin & Martha; daughter, Denise Neiswender; and siblings Jacqueline (Hubert) Matthews, Carl (Mary) Fay, William Fay.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, September 15, at 11 AM at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan, with Pastor Nate Babcock officiating. Burial will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, September 14, from 5 PM until 7 PM at the funeral home.
