Dale's Obituary
Dale Charles Tilly, 80, of Buchanan, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
A celebration of life gathering will be held from 6-8 pm on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St. Buchanan. A service will take place at 11 am on Tuesday, August 22, also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Dale’s name may be made to the Buchanan Serenity Group, 205 E. Dewey St., Buchanan or Olde Boys Toys Car Club, 3550 N. 5th St. – Niles, MI 49120. Those wishing to leave a condolence online may do so at www.swemchapel.com.
Dale was born on April 2, 1943, to Frank and Lois (Rudell) Tilly in Buchanan. He graduated from Buchanan High School, class of 1961. Dale then continued his education at Ferris State, transferring to Michigan State University where he earned a degree in Engineering. Professionally, he served at Clark Equipment Company, Premiere Manufacturing, and Bosch, where he retired in 2009.
On October 9, 1999, he married Sherrill Hanover. Dale was a farmer at heart and enjoyed casual farming over the years, mostly hay, corn and beans. He was a car enthusiast and especially enjoyed collecting cars and tractors. Dale was a proud member of the Olde Boys Toys Car Club, Niles. He was always happy to go on a joy ride, and accumulated many miles on various vehicles over the years. Dale was also very fond of their cabin at the lake and found great peace there later in his life.
Dale is survived by his wife, Sherrill Tilly; children, Mike Tilly, Sharon (Larry) Camp, Sheri (Todd) Cauffman and Nick (Aimee) Murdock; grandchildren, Stephanie (Ryan Steiner) Tilly, Blaine Backus, Korey (Jaclyn) Camp, Carrie Cauffman, Marisa Murdock and great-grandchildren, Alexis, Tony, Nevaeh, Kassidy and Kase. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lois Tilly; brother, Lynn Tilly and granddaughter, Salina Tilly.
