Joe's Obituary

D. Joseph “Joe” Ferrier, 82, of Stevensville, went to meet his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.

A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 1:30 P.M. Friday, January 17, 2025 at First Church of God, 2627 Niles Ave., St. Joseph. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 12:30 P.M. at the Church. Memorial donations in Joe’s name may be made to Bible Study Fellowship, Life Action in Buchanan, or the St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center. Joe was born February 13, 1942 in Benton Harbor to Jasmon “Joe” & Esther (Schultz) Ferrier. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School, Class of 1960. Joe went on to earn his Bachelors Degree from Western Michigan University & his Masters from Central Michigan University. On March 29, 1969, he married the former Connie Helmker at First Church of God where the two of them had met and served as a team for 57 years.

Joe began his career as a teacher at Benton Harbor High School and then as a guidance counselor at Fairplain Jr. High, also served briefly at Martin Luther King Junior High for a total of twenty-eight years in education. Joe finished the last nine years of his career with VALIC as a financial/retirement planner, serving teachers from many area schools.

Joe was a long-time member of the First Church of God, St. Joseph where he served as treasurer & usher for many years, along with numerous boards & committees. He was active and served as a leader for Bible Study Fellowship, enjoyed the time spent at the St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center and volunteering at Caretel Inns & Hanson Hospice Center.

Joe is survived by his wife Connie; his children-Julie (Brent) DeWeerd & Todd (Kathy) Ferrier; six grandchildren-Andrew “A.J.”, Elise, & Jared DeWeerd, Gavin, Katelyn, & Allison Ferrier. He loved his family deeply. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
