Clara's Obituary
Clara Mae (Fultz) Pompey passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 1st at her home. Clara was born February 2nd 1944 in Cairo, Illinois, she was the 6th child born to her parents A.D. and Ida Mae (Bracy) Fultz. The family soon relocated to Michigan and eventually settled in Dowagiac.
On February 7, 1967 she married the love of her life, Ronald D. Pompey. Clara was a loving and devoted wife for over 50 years, to this union two children were born, Rhonda who preceded her in death and Ronald Pompey Jr.
Clara was the Matriarch of the Fultz family and a pillar of the Dowagiac community; she never met a stranger. Clara continued in the family trait of showing love and kindness to everyone. She often provided a place to rest and a hot meal to many. She was soft spoken and a confidante to many, her kindness was known through-out the community.
In addition to her parents and daughter. Clara was preceded in death by five brothers, Willie D. Fultz, William J. Fultz, Carlos Fultz, George J. Fultz, and Charles E. Fultz, Sr. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Lorraine Fultz, Mary H. Clark, Flossie B. Brown and Theola M. Fultz.
Left to mourn and cherish her memory is her husband, Ronald D. Pompey, her son Ronald D. Pompey, Jr. her brother Ray D. Fultz, her grandson, Ronald Pompey III, her granddaughter Caden Pompey, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022, at 12PM, at Apostolic Lighthouse Church, 30402 M62 West, Dowagiac. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
