Charles S. “Chuck” Tidey, 79, of Buchanan, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023, at home.
A celebration of life gathering will be held from 11 am – 2 pm on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan. Memorial contributions may be made to the family, in C/O Melanie Byrdak, for a future designation in his memory. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.swemchapel.com.
Charles was born on December 16, 1943, to Charles and Pearl (Heminger) Tidey in Dowagiac. He graduated from Buchanan High School and in his younger years, Charles broke, ferried and groomed horses. He really enjoyed all aspects of working with the horses and by doing so, traveled all over at a young age. Professionally, Chuck served with many companies, including Clark Equipment, Sheller-Globe, Electro-Voice and AM General from which he retired. He was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed being a CCW instructor. He was passionate about instructing his classes and was able to fully transition to this role following retirement. Chuck loved his family, animals and cherished time spent with them.
Chuck is survived by his children, Steven (KeLee) Tidey, Lisa (Steve) Eliason, Melanie Byrdak, Adam (Alyssa) Byrdak and Troy (Susan) Fuller; grandchildren, Summer Tidey, Max Tidey, Leilani Eliason, Ariel (Devin) Tarnasky, Wyatt Anderson and Benjamin Byrdak; great-grandchildren, Ophelia Breland, Angus Breland, Jasper Turay; brothers, David (Denise) Hankins, Jay (Linda) Tidey and sisters, Dora Huston, Doris Dale and Mary (Virgil) Weaver. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Pearl Tidey; granddaughter, Stevie Rae Tidey; brother, Ray Tidey and sisters, Joan Tidey and Pat Goings.
