Charles David “Chuck” Garlanger, 83, Of St. Joseph, MI, passed away in his home on Sat – July 27, 2024. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.

Charles was born on Jan. 24, 1941 in Benton Harbor, MI to the late Charles and Mary (Houart) Garlanger.

Charles was a 1959 graduate of St. John’s High School in Benton Harbor. On Oct. 26, 1963 he married Jacquelyn Cayo; she preceded him in death on July 7, 2019. Charles was owner and operator of several business including Star Stamping in Benton Harbor, Glamour Pools in Stevensville, and the Holiday Inn in Benton Harbor. He was very active in the St. Joseph Charter Township. Charles loved sports – especially coaching with the North Lincoln Baseball Association. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and had football season tickets for over 50 years. He was a member and 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus Benton Harbor Counsel #1120. Charles also belonged to the Class of 59 Lunch Group. He loved his family and was affectionately known as “Papa Chuck” to his grandchildren.

Charles is survived by his sons – Charles “Jeff” Garlanger of Van Buren, AR and Loren “Chris” Garlanger of St. Joseph; grandchildren – Carsyn (JB) Rainwater and Charles “Hogan” Garlanger both of Ft. Smith, AR; three great grandchildren – Reece, Ridley and Rylee; a brother – Robert Garlanger of St. Augustine, FL; brother-in-law Roger (Donna) Cayo; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother – Richard Garlanger and sisters – Joan Hryshko, Doris Bauman and Dolores Phillips.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday – Aug. 2, 2024 at 10:00am. Visitation with the family is on Thursday – from 5:00-7:00pm with a rosary at 6:45pm at Starks & Menchinger Chapel in St. Joseph.
