Carol's Obituary
Carol Jean Drews, 77, of St. Joseph, Michigan, peacefully passed away on December 31, 2024.
Carol was born to William J. and Dorothea Jane Groh of St. Joseph, Michigan, on June 23, 1947. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1965. Carol was baptized and confirmed, and during her life was an active member of St. Peter’s UCC, the First Congregational UCC of Benton Harbor, and the First Congregational UCC Church in St. Joseph.
The love of her life was Ron Drews. They dated, were engaged and married on June 20, 1970, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ Church in St. Joseph, Michigan, and enjoyed 49 years together until his passing.
Carol believed in living her Christian values through service to others, including volunteering at the Soup Kitchen, Women’s Fellowship, active involvement in Southwest Michigan’s Lest We Forget, and serving on the Friends of the Library board. Carol generously supported a number of causes and charities that benefitted children, hospice and the greater community.
Carol is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ronald, and her parents, Bill and Dorothy Groh. She is survived by her children Janet Drews and Jill (Peter) McKinney, her grandchildren Isabelle McKinney, Isaac McKinney, and Abigail Ordiway, her sister, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and friends.
Visitation will be held at Starks and Menchinger Funeral Home (2650 Niles Road) in St. Joseph on Friday, January 3, 2024, from 5:30-7:30 pm. Her funeral
will be held at First Congregational UCC (2001 Niles Ave.) in St. Joseph at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 4, 2024. Carol will be laid to rest at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma, Michigan.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Department of the Maud Preston Palenski Library in Carol’s name.
