Avis M. Austin, 86, of Watervliet, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Hanson Hospice Center.
Avis was born on October 15, 1937, to Julian Beaudine and Bernice Guderian in St. Paul, MN. She attended Benton Harbor High School. She owned Pine Pub Kitchen in St. Joseph before working for Fireside Inn in Stevensville. On December 13, 1985, Avis married the love of her life Ledford Austin in Benton Harbor.
In Avis spare time, she enjoyed gardening, crafting, reading and completing word searches, but her most cherished time was spent with her family.
Avis is survived by her daughter Charlene Woods of Watervliet; four grandchildren Charles Green III, Julie (Nick) Carter, Janet (Brian) Tufnell, and Russell Anderson, Jr.; numerous great & great-great grandchildren; siblings, Linda (Bob) Frasier, Ruby (Ron) Castor, Marlyn Beaudine, Vera Pratt and Norman Beaudine; numerous nieces & nephews; and special friend Kelly Conaway.
Avis was preceded in death by her parents, Julian Beaudine and Bernice Franks; husband Ledford Austin; children, Kathren Ledbetter and Russell Anderson; and numerous siblings.
A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 11AM, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Pastor Scott Saylor officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 10AM until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
