Shannon's Obituary
Shannon Eric Gullion, 49, of South Haven, passed away surrounded by his family, Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born September 27, 1969 in South Haven. His parents were Joe and Carolyn (Schewe) Zmuda in South Haven. Shannon attended South Haven High School with the Class of 1987.
He was uniquely skilled in automotive restoration and worked both for himself and Trackside Custom Works. Shannon was also a skilled wood worker and could build anything from horse barns, elaborate chicken coops, rabbit hutches, massive retaining walls. He was in the process of restoring an antique piano when he died. He loved to read and was collecting classical books, first editions and was so proud to display them in antique barrister bookcases. In the past few years he discovered how much he loved to travel - going to Costa Rica, the Netherland Antilles, many cities and national parks in the United States. He was planning on going to Europe this summer and was looking forward to that. He was a skilled hunter. He loved trees and nature and working outside. He built a computer with his stepson over the winter as a new challenge. But most of all he loved his family and was so proud of their accomplishments.
Shannon was a veritable encyclopedia of knowledge - a true Renaissance man. He was fascinated by history. He loved cooking and trying new cuisines. He would host dinner parties with exotic dishes and loved having his friends try them. He could fix anything and was fascinated by how things worked, machines, and the natural world around him. He was meticulous and dedicated, and a perfectionist in his work.
Most of all Shannon was a loving father, grandfather, and soon to be husband.
Shannon was so happy on the day he died - attending the FlyWheelers flea market, visiting with family and spending the afternoon opening up a creek so he could kayak this summer.
He is preceded in death by his mother – Carolyn Zmuda, brother – Scott Gullion, and sister Wanda Chadwick
Shannon is survived by his children – Shana Gullion, Jared Stanbery, and Ryan Lloyd all of South Haven; father – Joe Zmuda of Lacota; fiancé – Dr. Andrea Fleuren; step-children – Lucas and Vivienne Oeming; grandchildren – Remy Jackson, Rianah Walker, and Royal Rogers; brother – Rich (Jennifer) Zmuda of South Haven, sisters Sharon Cook and Rhonda Wright, brother Dewayne Johnson.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Memorial services will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
