Robert E. Ashbrook

Robert E. Ashbrook, 84, of South Haven, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at his home under Hospice care. He was born August 31, 1933 to Walter and Laura (Lynch) Ashbrook in Benton Harbor. Robert graduated with the Bangor High School Class of 1953. He honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1955 to 1956. Robert married Nancy Engel on May 25, 1957 at the First English Lutheran Church in South Haven. They shared 60 years of marriage. Robert worked in construction for many years at John Yerrington Construction, Consumers Asphalt and Westshore Asphalt. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local Union #324 retiring in 1997. Robert enjoyed watching NASCAR and followed Jeff Gordon’s #24 car. He appreciated classic cars and enjoyed going to car shows. He especially enjoyed keeping up with his grandchildren and attending their various activities. Robert was a member of the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven.

He is preceded in death along with his parents by a son – David Ashbrook, and brother – Wayne Ashbrook.

Robert is survived by his wife – Nancy Ashbrook of South Haven; children – Steven (Karen) Ashbrook and Robin Ashbrook both of South Haven; siblings – Shirley Strong of Orlando, Florida and Louise Rupczynski of Bangor, Michigan; grandchildren – Amber Leslie of Holland and Erin Harshberger of South Haven.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven. Funeral services will follow visitation at 11:00 AM with Pastor Travis Wilson officiating at the church. Robert will be laid to rest at Monks Cemetery in Geneva Township.
