Joe's Obituary
Joe Lee Wilson was born on November 3, 1936 to the union of Dr. James Wilson and Annie Laura Tolbert Wilson, in Saltillo, Mississippi. He was the seventh child of ten, born to this union. His parents and six of his siblings proceeded him in death. He attended elementary school in Shannon, Mississippi and completed high school in Chicago, Illinois. He worked for Penske Truck Leasing for 20 years, where he was a Mechanic Foreman. He continued working after retirement with Chemical Bank, South Haven, Michigan. Upon retirement, he and his wife Lola, enjoyed retirement and inviting people to enjoy, “the hill.” (Sunshine Acres)
Joe met and married the love of his life, Lola Jordan on September 27, 1956, and to this union was born three sons Kenneth, Furgus and Timothy, and four daughters, Leta, Lamantha, Laphanie and Lori. He and his wife Lola were married for 60 years.
Joe gave his life to Goad at an early age. He was a dedicated man in all his endeavors, but his true love was God and his Family. On January 30, 2017, he was called to rest.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Lola, one son Furgus (Mary)Wilson of San Francisco, California; four daughters: Leta (Prince) Covington of South Haven, Michigan; Lamantha (Jeff) Wyatt of Atlanta, Georgia; Laphanie (Everett) Banks of Blufton, South Carolina; Lori (Alex) Gross of Kronberg, Germany; two brothers: James (Lois) Wilson of Soso, Mississippi, Benjamin (Sherrie) Wilson of Markham, Illinois; one sister: Ozema Knight of Crestwood, Kentucky; Grandchildren: Prince, Jr., Kenan, Germaine, Maya, Jessica, Timo, Stefani, Amber, Furgus Jr., Ashley, Ian, Renay, Imaria, Everett, Josephine, and a host of great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other close family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Lucy Estell, Welzanna Hodges, Dovey Anderson; and three brothers Andy, Cecil, and Gus Wilson.
Wake will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will follow wake at 1:00 PM with Pastor John Fitzgerald officiating.
