Randy Dale Underwood

Randy Underwood, 55, from South Haven, Michigan, passed from this life on June 20th after a brave, 4 year battle with ALS. Randy was the 2nd son of Jack and June Underwood of Glenn Haven Shores.  He was a 1978 graduate of South Haven High School where he lettered in cross-country, wrestling and track.  After High School, Randy worked at Everett Piano before transferring to the Post Office where he spent most of his working career in South Haven and Kalamazoo.  

Randy was always an exceptional athlete participating in adult softball, golf and bowling leagues and also completed his first marathon at the age of 46.  He was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church for the majority of his adult life where he taught Sunday School and often sang special music as well.  A loyal friend to many, he will be remembered for his willingness to help everyone, a ready smile and a determination matched by very few. 

Randy was preceded in death by his mother, June Grace Underwood in 2003.  He is survived by his daughter, Kelsie Underwood of Phoenix, AZ., his son Ryan Underwood of Kalamazoo, and his daughter Isabel of White Cloud, MI.  He is also survived by his father and step-mother, Jack and Marsha Underwood of South Haven, His older brother Larry of Zeeland, Mich., his younger brothers Bob Underwood of Stafford, VA., and Allen Underwood and Chuck Underwood of Yorktown, VA., along with his little sister Joy Underwood of Holland, MI.    

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 3, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Mick Schmid officiating. Randy will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven.
