Irving's Obituary

Irving Goldberg, 91, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed on October 5th, 2013 at South Haven Health Systems.  Born on September 27, 1922 to David and Sophia (Greenhaut) Goldberg in Chicago, IL.  Irv grew up and spent his life in South Haven when his parents moved here.  He graduated from South Haven High School; the Class of 1941.  Irv served his country during World War II in the army working as a mechanic in the medical corps.  In South Haven, Irv owned and operated several businesses from a service station to a car wash to his scrap metal recycling businesses. 

Irving was a long time member of the First Hebrew Congregation Synagogue and served in the Lions Club.  He was an avid blood donor and enjoyed woodworking and general “tinkering.” Irv was very skilled at fixing anything, weather it was the “right” way or the “Irving” way.  He especially had a way with cars.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife - Pearl Goldberg -and a sister - Charlotte Grenrock.  He touched a lot of lives in his 90+ years with his gentle smile and great humor.

Irv is survived by his children - Jeffrey (Ruth) Goldberg of El Paso, TX, Paul (Stephanie) Goldberg of Nashville, TN and Debra (Kevin) Merrell of South Haven, MI and his grandchildren - Andrew (Jessica), Jennifer, Amanda, Nathaniel and Abigail and one great grandson, Jack.

Funeral service will be on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home with Mr. Lou Price officiating.  Burial will take place at First Hebrew Congregation Cemetery in South Haven.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Hebrew Congregation Synagogue of South Haven, MI.  Kindly share your thoughts and memories on the family's online guest book at www.FilbrandtFFH.com.
