Timothy's Obituary

Tim Dotson, 54, of South Haven, passed away, Thursday, July 25, 2013, surrounded by family at his home, after a courageous two-year battle against amyotrophic lateral schlerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, for which there is no treatment and no cure.  Tim graduated from LC Mohr High School in 1977.  He began working at National Motors, and then became a travel radiation protection technician at Davis Besse Nuclear Plant.  Tim worked at Palisades Nuclear Plant for 23 years until he became disabled.

Tim had a great love for his family and enjoyed spending time with family and friends in his Ohio State Man Cave, where even Michigan fans were welcome.  He loved The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds.   He enjoyed listening to his music, especially Jimmy Buffet, and his English bulldogs were his pride and joy.  He was a kind soul who would (and did) give anyone in need the shirt off his back, and anyone who knew him could look forward to a lively debate when opinions differed.  Tim was an active member of South Haven Elks Lodge where he held several positions.  He was also a member of the South Haven Moose Lodge.

He is preceded in death by his father Norm, mother, Ruth, and twin sons Jarrod and Justin.  Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Barb, daughter Krystina Dotson, son Willis Dotson, both of South Haven, daughters Erin Rosentreter (Steve) of Slidell, LA, Meagan Shankland (Justin), and Andrea Smith (Zack), both of Jackson, MI, grandchildren, Natasha (RJ), Patrick (Lisa), Mariah, Abigail, Austin, Kendall and Madisyn, and great-grand children, Kaylyn, Jaycee and Aubrey.  Also surviving are brother Ron (Kathy) Dotson, brother Lynn (Terri) Dotson, sister Paula Tietsema (Norm), and sister Becky Goodrich (Jerry), all of South Haven.  Father-in-law Carl (Deana) Bohne of Seward, NE also survives, as well as many well-loved nieces and nephews.

Donations in Tim's memory can be made to the ALS Association of Michigan or to ALS Guardian Angels.  Please join us in our continued fight for a cure by participating in the 2nd annual T'D Off to Beat ALS golf outing and Prime Rib Dinner/Dance/Auction.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 28, 2013 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will be Monday, July 29, at 1:00 PM at the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Eric Jarvis. Tim will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven.
