J. E. "Jake"'s Obituary
J. E. “Jake” Berry, 84, of South Haven passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2006 at Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. Jake was born on August 26, 1922 in Hackleburg, Alabama to Elmer and Mary (Ford) Berry.
Jake was a member of the Lacota General Baptist Church. Jake was formerly a pastor of 20 years at the Keeler General Baptist, Midway General Baptist Church and Coloma General Baptist Churches. Jake also worked as a mill wright at Whirlpool Corporation for 33 years retiring in 1983. Jake loved to fish and hunt.
Jake is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Loraine Berry who died in 1997, one son; Michael Berry, three brothers; Bunk, Bennie and Raymond Berry. One sister; Alice Fredrick, one grandson; Noah Matthew Berry and one great-grandson Noah Peter Berry.
He is survived by his sons; Jerry (Pat) Berry of Decatur, Michigan, Kenneth Berry of Jacksonville, North Carolina and Mark (Lou Ann) Berry of Coloma, Michigan. Two daughters; Barbara (Ervin) Johnson of South Haven, Michigan and Sheila (Joseph) Smith of Coloma, Michigan. Sixteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Two sisters; Martha Lilly of Russelville, Alabama and Ellen (Allen) Parten of Boligee, Alabama
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 26 from 5 – 8 P.M. at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 27 at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Ervin Johnson officiating. Burial will take place at North Shore Memory Gardens in Hagar Shores, Michigan. Memorial contributions can be made to Lacota General Baptist Church, P.O. Box 25, Lacota, MI 49063.
