Lottie Hiatt

Lottie Bell Hiatt, 92 of South Haven, Michigan passed away on April 18, 2009 at Countryside Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Community. Lottie was born on June 3, 1916 in Pangburn, Arkansas to Leonard and Mattie (Massie) Cooper.

Lottie married to Isaac Leonard Newberry on August 9, 1933 in Bald Know, Arkansas. Isaac passed away March 1936 just prior to the birth of their son, Virgil Leonard Newberry. She then married Richard Ray Hiatt on October 7, 1938 in Caruthersville, Missouri.

Lottie retired from Michigan Fruit Canners in 1978. Before and after her retirement, Lottie not only raised her 4 sons but assisted daily in the raising of numerous grandchildren and other children. She was a foster grandparent into her late 70s while living in Oklahoma and Arkansas. Lottie shared with all she came in contact with her love of life and its many bounties. Her passion for life included her love of God, her family, children and the art of making quilts.

Lottie is preceded in death by her husband – Richard Hiatt on May 3, 2003, her sons – Virgil Newberry and Donald Hiatt and 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

She is survived by her son – Hollis Hiatt of South Haven, Michigan and Marvin (Wanda) Hiatt of Grand Junction, Michigan, Donald (Alvia) Hiatt of Tulsa, Oklahoma, 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 21 from 6-8 pm at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 22 at 11:00 am with Pastor Eric Jarvis officiating at the funeral home. Burial will take place at McDowell Cemetery, Casco Township, Michigan.
