Charles's Obituary

Charles Thomas “Bub” DeFreez, 95, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016, at his brother’s (Robert DeFreez) home in Galien. A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, April 29, 2016 at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan, MI with Pastor Carl Bassett officiating.  Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 AM to Noon before the service.  Burial will take place immediately following the service at Galien Cemetery.  Those wishing to leave a memory of Charles may do so by visiting www.swemchapel.com. Memorials in Charles’ name may be made to Hospice at Home, 1234 Napier Ave., St. Joseph, MI 49085. Charles was born in Racine, WI, on December 7, 1920 to Richard and Elizabeth (Abel) DeFreez. He married Shirley Jane Sheeley Cole in July, 1966.  Charles was an agricultural farmer in the Galien, MI area all his life.  He loved to be on his tractor planting corn and soybeans, working in his vegetable garden, feeding the birds and squirrels and spending time with “Kitty” his cat. Charles is survived by his twin brothers Robert and Richard DeFreez both of Galien; four step-children and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Shirley Jane Sheeley; two sisters Katherine Tees and Lina Payne and a brother Donald R. DeFreez.
