Elaine Dorothy Siewert

Elaine Dorothy Siewert, 82, of Niles, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Hanson Hospice Center, Stevensville. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Portage Praire United Methodist Church, 2450 Orange Rd., Niles, MI. Friends may visit with the family one hour before the service from 10-11 am. Memorial contributions may be made to Portage Praire United Methodist Church or Caring Circle Hospice. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.swemchapel.com Elaine was born on December 18, 1935 to Otto and Elsie Siewert at her grandparents’ home near Buchanan. She graduated from Galien High School in 1954. After graduation she began working as a teller and bookkeeper at Buchanan Farmers Credit Union, now Country Heritage Credit Union. She retired after over fifty years of service. Elaine was a longtime member of Portage Praire United Methodist Church where she taught many generations in the Nursery class at Sunday School. She was a member of BPW and Women of the Moose for many years. Elaine was also known to help friends and family at a moments notice whether it was a ride somewhere, provide a meal or visit. Elaine is survived by her brothers, Albert (Elaine) Siewert and Thomas (Cynthia) Siewert; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Elsie Siewert.
