Michael's Obituary
Michael's life began on May 27, 1945 in Dowagiac, the first of seven children of Mary Alice and William Magin. He graduated from Dowagiac Central High in 1964. Mike served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was employed as an ironworker out of South Bend Ironworker's Local 292 for 35 years, retiring in 2000. He was united in marriage to the former Shirley Magin in October of 1968 and started a family. Mike was a dedicated family man his entire life and his loving family includes his children Sheryl (Scott) Steckler of Dowagiac, and Steven (Holly) Magin of Benton Harbor, his fiancé “Honey†Carolyn Baiers of Sister Lakes and her children David and Carol Stasiak. his grandchildren and light of his life Emily Steckler, Hanna Steckler, Alex Steckler Hendrickson, Sam Steckler, Benjamin Myas, Cody Stasiak and Tyler Stasiak, sister Carol (Rick) Bernsen of Bay City, TX, brothers Bobbie (Mary) Magin of Katy, TX, Ron (Reggie) Magin of Richland, MI, Chris ( Peggy) Magin of Sister Lakes and Mark (Jeanne) Magin of Kalamazoo, many nieces and nephews and special friends Lee and Connie Franz and Joyce and John Scherer. Mike was a lifelong hunter and sportsman with a special love of duck hunting and fishing. He loved nature and gardening and was known for his beautiful yard in Sister Lakes. Mike was a people person and cared for his friends and he loved babies. He was a life member of the Dowagiac Conservation Club, a supporter of Ducks Unlimited, an avid University of Michigan fan and a faithful parishioner at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Mike passed away at his home on Sunday June 12, 2011. He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley Magin, his parents, a sister Kathleen Magin and brother in law Carl Michael. His family will gather with friends on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Yazel & Clark Chapel where Deacon Frank Wesolowski will lead a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. His funeral service will be held at Yazel & Clark Chapel at 10 a.m. on Friday led by Father Kevin Covert. He will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mike's name may be directed to his grandchildren for college.
