Dorothy Ann Martin 60 of South Bend, IN. departed this life on November 18, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Dorothy Ann McNichols was born July 8, 1951 to the union of Jessie & Fannie May (Mathison) McNichols Jr. in Blytheville, Arkansas. She was the eldest of four children. Her family moved to Michigan where she met and married James Martin on September 10, 1967. To this union four children where born.Dorothy enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family. She loved to cook, fish, play bingo and take care of her family. She always had a giving heart and would help anyone in need.Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age at Macedonia Community Church in Eau Claire MI. under the leadership of founding Pastor Rev. E.H Culpepper, now under the leadership of Rev. Richard Robinson. Sis Martin sang in the senior choir, worked in the kitchen until her health failed. Dorothy received her education through the Dowagiac Public Schools Adult Education she received her diploma in 1983. Dorothy worked for Memorial Health Systems for 10 years as a home care aide.She leaves to cherish her memories 5 children Carolyn (Cleveland) Wilson, of Dowagiac, Tonya Bailey of South Bend, Felicia Martin of South Bend, Dorothy (Fred) Martin of Dowagiac, James Martin Jr. of Muskegon Heights, one brother Oscar (Mila) McNichols.of Dowagiac, 14 grand children, Sharetta (Harry) Reed, Roberta Scott, Karla(David) Menefee, Janina Martin, Travell Weakley, Kadeesha Wilson, Robert Scott, Devon Bailey, Daunte Bailey, Marquis Martin, Destiny Martin, Tajah Martin, Joy Roddy, Jenesis Green, 11 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers and 1 grand daughter.Visitation for Dorothy will be held Friday December 2, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Dowagiac, her funeral will follow at 12:00 PM Yazel and Clark Chapel is assisting the family.
