Dr. Stanley M. Mesirow, 80, of Benton Harbor, died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at his home.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Temple B?nai Shalom, 2050 Broadway, Benton Harbor. Burial will follow at B?nai Shalom Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Temple B?nai Shalom or Hospice at Home. Arrangements are entrusted to Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Dr. Mesirow was born April 11, 1924 in Benton Harbor to Manuel & Pearl (Block) Mesirow. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1941. Stanley completed his undergraduate work at the University of Michigan. He was drafted into the Army, enrolled in the Army Specialized Training Program, and graduated from medical school at the University of Iowa. There he met a nurse named Frances Falk. They were married September 18, 1949 in Washington, Iowa. Dr. Mesirow served his country during both WWII & the Korean War. Dr. Mesirow opened his dermatology practice in the Fidelity Building in Benton Harbor in 1955. He was elected chief of staff at Mercy Hospital in 1962 & Memorial Hospital in 1976. He served two year terms at each hospital. Dr. Mesirow was a member of the Berrien County Health Dept. and was elected president of the Berrien County Medical Society in 1962. In addition to his medical career, Dr. Mesirow was active on the Fairplain School Board for six years, the Benton Harbor School Board for two years, and was president of Temple B?nai Shalom for two terms for a total of thirteen years. Dr. Mesirow retired in 2003 after nearly fifty years in the medical profession.
Dr. Mesirow is survived by his wife Frances; two sons-Dr. Manuel ?Buzz? (Mimi) Mesirow of Olympia Field, IL; Dr. Robert (Amy) Mesirow or Marstons Mills, MA; his daughter Donna (Tim) Hill of Seattle, WA; seven grandchildren-Michael, David, Adam, Ben, & Robin Mesirow, Alex & Becky Hill; and a sister Lucile Katz of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents.
