Wilbur L. Wendt

Wilbur L. ?Snow? Wendt, 79, of St. Joseph, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2005, at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2005, at 11:00 A.M., at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Jon Bendewald officiating. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma with graveside Military Services conducted by Coloma American Legion Post #362, VFW Post #1137 in Benton Harbor, and VFW Post #6803 of Watervliet. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M., at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to VFW Post #1137 in Benton Harbor or American Legion Post #568 in Stevensville. Friends may send the family a condolence message or sign the guest book on-line at www.starks-menchinger.com. Snow was born to Adam and Melinda (Ferris) Wendt on January 20, 1926, in Benton Harbor. Snow graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1944. He served in the Army during WWII as well as the Korean War. In 1948, he married Rosemary Carrier. Snow worked at the Welcome Inn in Stevensville as a bartender. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, reading, and he was a member of VFW Post #1137 in Benton Harbor and American Legion Post #568 in Stevensville. Snow is survived by his wife Rosemary; children- Nancy Blocker of Springdale, Arkansas, Michael Wendt of St. Joseph, David Wendt of Battle Creek, Rosanne Hostetler of Berrien Center, Jeffrey Wendt of Baroda, Valerie (Michael) Shlepr of Appleton, Wisconsin, Rita Rae Wendt of Palm Bay, Florida, and Steven Wendt of Kalamazoo; daughter-in-law Sue Wendt of Miami, Florida; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters- Dorothy Gast of St. Joseph; Phyllis Wycoff of St. Joseph, and Marilyn (Ernie) Reimer of Eau Claire; and sister-in-law Nadine Wendt of Baroda.Snow was preceded in death by his parents; son Bruce Wendt; and brother Clarence Wendt.
