Helen L. Noffke

Helen Noffke, 93, of St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Whitcomb Towers in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will follow at Crystal Springs Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Helen was born February 23, 1915 in Benton Harbor to George & Zula (Valentine) Humphrey. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1933, and attended Twin Cities Business College. On October 14, 1939, she married Herbert Noffke in Benton Harbor. Helen was employed at Theisen-Clemens and at Troost Bros., both in St. Joseph for many years. She was active with The Morton House in Benton Harbor and The Am-Vets. Helen volunteered for many years at Lakeland Hospital in the surgery department. She is loved and will be missed by her family and many friends. Helen is survived by her son David Noffke of St. Joseph; two granddaughters-Veronica Noffke of Santa Barbara, CA, Tiffany Little of Atlanta, GA; and her sister Margaret (Donald) Eppley of St. Joseph. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert on June 22, 1992, her daughter Arlene Noffke in July of 1998, and by two brothers-Maurice & Donald Humphrey.
