GORDON SWEDE VAUGHN CLOSSON, 80, died peacefully in his sleep at home surrounded by his family on Februrary 24th, 2009, after a long battle with cancer. Gordon was born to Don and Florence Marie Closson on September 23rd, 1928 in Benton Harbor, MI. He spent his entire life in his family’s hometown, working at his father’s truck and trailer repair business, Don Closson and Sons, which was founded in 1945 and is still family owned and operated today. Gordon and his loving wife Lois (Parker) had recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on January 21st, 2009. Gordon was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1967. His wife and all their children, as well as their grandchildren followed his example and are also baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses. Gordon is survived by his wife, Lois, and his five children, Michael (Rhonda) Closson of Spokane, WA; John (Heidi) Closson of Benton Harbor, MI; Sally Closson of Berrien Springs; Jane Closson of Benton Harbor and Lisa (Seth) Doolen of Berrien Springs. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Michael II (Jill) Closson of Coeur Alene, ID; Adam (April) Closson of Veradale, WA; Aaron Closson of Benton Harbor, MI; Brett Closson of Benton Harbor; Joseph Norem of Berrien Springs and Cydney Doolen of Berrien Springs; two great grandchildren, Mackenzie Hamilton and Conor Michael Closson and his sister, Virginia Closson of Benton Harbor. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Bruce, Doug, Don II “Chuck”, Dale and Rex, all of Berrien County. The family would like to invite you to be with them when they remember Gordon’s life and his faith in a memorial service this Sunday, March 1st, 2009 at Starks ; Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph.. A visitation will be held 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. and the Memorial discourse will be held at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in honor of Gordon Closson to the Jehovah’s Witnesses Worldwide Preaching .
