Doris's Obituary

Doris “Doe” Faye Adkins, of Dowagiac, passed away Wednesday evening, March 18, 2015 at her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren and her identical twin after a long and extensive illness. A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Clark Chapel, 405 Center Street in Dowagiac with Pastor Kenny Lacefield of the Church of God, Elkhart, IN officiating. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Dowagiac.  A luncheon will be held at the Dowagiac Lions Club on Bluebird Lane off Middle Crossing Road immediately following burial. Those wishing to leave a memory or condolence of Doris online may do so at www.clarkch.com. Doris was born July 22, 1939 in Iager, W.V. to Jack and Florence (Schuler) Seabolt. She grew up in the JohnnyCake Mountain area. She attended Iager High School and received her diploma there.  After high school she moved to Chicago and started working in a factory where she met her husband, Paul Adkins. They married and had two children in Elkhart, IN. While in Elkhart, Doris drove a bus for handicapped children and adults until she and her husband later divorced. She later met John Duty in 1989 and he has been her semi lifetime partner since then. “Doe” was a firecracker redhead who didn’t put up with a lot of shenanigans. Her grandchildren, nieces and nephews all love her dearly. Doris was a very caring and giving person to most people she met. She is now at peace. Doris is survived by her daughter, Tina (John) Leblang of Dowagiac and son, Jody Adkins of Hartford, MI.  She also leaves behind three grandchildren; Christopher, Benjamin and Elizabeth Doris and many nieces and nephews.  Doris is also survived by three brothers; William (Norma) Seabolt of Lexington, KY, Andrew Seabolt of Elkhart, IN, and Donald (Sandy) Seabolt of White Pigeon, and by two sisters; Anna Belle Smith of Elkhart, IN and an identical twin, Iris May Duty of White Pigeon. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother; Darrell Seabolt.
