Donald's Obituary

Donald C. Davis, 86, of St. Joseph, went to meet his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, June 18, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Scottdale United Methodist Church, 4271 Scottdale Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Terry Schneider officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Run Cemetery with military rites conducted by the North Berrien Military Rites Team. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Scottdale United Methodist Church. Those wishing to sign Don’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Don was born December 3, 1925 in Benton Harbor to William & Mary (Geisler) Davis. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1944 and enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country during WWII. In 1946, he married the former Bette Grennan. Don was employed by Superior Builders in St. Joseph, retiring as a master carpenter after many years of employment, and was active at the family Centennial farm on Scottdale Rd. Following the death of his wife Bette, Don married Alice Maas Martin and they celebrated nearly twenty-seven years together. Don was a member of Scottdale United Methodist Church where he was known for his pancakes at the church breakfasts, and a member of Stevensville American Legion Post #568. He built his own home in St. Joseph, enjoyed woodworking, tending to the farm, and was always willing to help others in whatever way he could. Don cherished the time spent with his family and his many friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Don is survived by his wife Alice; his children-Glen Davis of St. Joseph, Sonya (Andy) Menchinger of Benton Harbor, Gloria Martin of Riverside, CA, Karen (Dan) Putnam of Holland, MI, Jack (Teresa) Martin of Coloma; grandchildren-Melissa Pajot, Chuck Lockwitz, James Lockwitz, Emily Martin, Kaitlyn Martin, Erik Menchinger, Aaron Menchinger; five great-grandchildren with another due soon; nieces & nephews-Al Maas Marian Jaymes, Sandy Schmidt & Cindy Sellen; and special neighbors and adopted family-Sally Robinson, Jason Storm & Aaron Thumm. He was preceded in death by his first wife Bette in 1984 and his sister Bonita Kugle in 2007.
