Eleanor Robinson Insley, 91 was born in Benton Harbor, MI on July 8, 1922. She chose to live the majority of her life in the twin cities of which her forbearers were early settlers. She died peacefully in St. Joseph on June 19, 2014 surrounded by her family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in St. Joseph. Eleanor graduated from Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School in Washington, DC and Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She worked on a Master’s degree at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. On October 20, 1945 she married Richard Wallace Insley and they were married for 64 years. Together they raised two children and traveled the world extensively.
She was a member of the Antiquarian Society, Monday Musical and was still a member of the Indian Hills Garden Club, a life member of the St. Joseph River Yacht Club, and charter member of Point O’ Woods Country Club. She was an Honorary Trustee of the Twin City Area Catholic School Fund.
She is survived by her son, Glen T. (Libby) Insley of DeBordieu, South Carolina, a daughter Anne I. (Michael) McCausland of Benton Harbor, and four grandsons: R. Kent (Meegan) Insley of New York, New York, Marshall E. (Liz) Insley of Bronxville, New York, Morgan K. (Katie) McCausland of University Heights, Ohio and Clay R. (Megan) McCausland of St. Joseph. She had eight great-grandchildren: Isabelle, Margaret, Elizabeth, Paige and Thomas Insley, and Jack, Braden, and Insley McCausland and a beloved bichon, Dolly.
She was an avid gardener and her gardens were featured on many community tours. She was also a history buff having and sharing extensive knowledge of the twin cities, which she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard W. Insley and her parents Marie O. and Glen E. Robinson of St. Joseph.
