Lester Carl Krause

Lester Carl Krause, Jr., 70, of St. Joseph passed away on February 24, 2016 at his home. Per Lester’s wishes cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to Michigan Lutheran High School of St. Joseph, MI. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Lester was born on December 27, 1947 in Benton Harbor to Lester, Sr., and Rosalie (Nehring) Krause. He grew up on the family farm in Scottdale, MI, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4×4 off-roading, snowmobiling and many other outdoor activities. Lester was a soldier for the United States Army and proudly served his country in Berlin, West Germany. After he returned home, Lester married the love of his life, Ellen Street, on Sept. 18, 1970 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Benton Harbor. Lester was employed at Whirlpool, Hughes Plastics, Collins & Aikman, and other local companies over the years. He found maintenance work to be satisfying and challenging. In his retirement years, Lester enjoyed antiquing, kayaking and gardening. His greatest pleasure in life was watching the wonderful men his two sons grew into. He also enjoyed being a grandfather and playing with his tiny buddy, Trevor. Lester is survived by his wife, Ellen; two sons, Vincent Krause, PhD. of Kalamazoo and Matthew (Nicole) Krause of Frankenmuth, MI; grandson, Trevor; mother, Rosalie; sister, Anne (Walter) Street; and brother-in-law, Alfred Freudenburg. Lester was preceded in death by his father, Lester, Sr., and sister, Mary Freudenburg.
