Delmer Kirksey passed away in the afternoon of September 24, 2017, surrounded by love and care in the comfort of his home in Stevensville, Michigan.
The Kirksey family will be holding a visual from 10:30 am until 11:30 am and memorial service for Delmer beginning Thursday at 11:30 am September 28, 2017 at the Benton Harbor Church of Christ, (1495 East Empire, Benton Harbor), with Rusty Stark officiating. A procession will follow to North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma.
Born May 2, 1932 in Caraway Arkansas, Delmer was the youngest son of Wiley & Jenny Kirksey/Gibson. At the age of 23, he married the love of his life, Betty Barnwell in St. Joseph. Sharing their vows and love for 62 years.
Delmer was a devout and active member of his church in St. Joe, A kind and patient father, and a helpful, caring friend. Anyone who knew him could appreciate his easy going demeanor, charismatic smile, and witty sense of humor. Delmer was a dependable employee at Saranac, Weldon and LECO Corporations for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed being a machinist and working with his hands. When he wasn’t working you’d find him enjoying one of his old cars, catching a ball game, or tending to the yard. Delmer will be deeply missed and remembered by his wife Betty Kirksey; daughter Kassandra Kirksey; son Roger Kirksey and wife, Jennifer Kirksey; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and brother Jerrel Kirksey. Delmer was preceded in death by his parents, his son Kevin Kirksey, Sisters Dorris and Gladis, brothers Henry, Raymond, Donald, Ruffus, and Baby Boy.
