Sally's Obituary

Sally Ann Freudenburg, 84, of St. Joseph, passed away on February 10, 2018, at Hanson Hospice Center. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 613 Court St., St. Joseph, with Pastor Michael J. Roth officiating.  Friends may visit with the family Thursday, February 15, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph.   Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Child and Family Services. Those wishing to send a condolence, sign the guest book, or read the entire obituary online, may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com   Sally was born on December 6, 1933 in Dowagiac to the late Merle P. and Bertha L. (Atwood) Durren. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School, and later Western Michigan University where she obtained her Masters in Child Development.  She married Paul Freudenburg on August 9, 1966 in Saugatuck.   She had many accomplishments including establishing Western Michigan University Human Growth and Development Nursery Lab, served as a board member on the Twin City Chamber of Commerce, taught at Western Michigan University and at Benton Harbor Public Schools, active with AAUW, chaired the Art Fair and Annual Book Sale, was an active member of Child & Family Service Auxiliary, and owned The Town Crier in St. Joseph.   Sally is survived by her loving husband, Paul; children, Gary Grall of Benton Harbor, David Grall of Saint Joseph, and Sarah (Steve) Ringer of St. Joseph; grandchildren Jessica, Austin, Hannah, Charlie, Arielle, and Nathaniel; niece Jill (Tim) Jersey; and grandnephew Paul (Samantha). She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother Robert Durren.
