Butch's Obituary

Odell “Butch” Tanner was born on February 15, 1958, to the union of Anna Bryant (Murray) and Odell Tanner, Sr. in Chicago, IL. He was the first of five children. Odell attended Chicago Public Schools before moving to Covert, Michigan with his family in 1973 and recently gave his life to Christ. He then relocated to Collins, Mississippi before being called home on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.

Odell was full of life and loved being around family and friends. He was always willing to help where and when he could and always greeted you with a big smile and a big heart.

He is preceded in death by his father Odell Tanner, Sr., step-father Melvin Murray, Brother Melvin Tanner, grandparents, two nephews, and many aunts and uncles.

He leaves to mourn his mother – Anna Tanner Murray, one son Tobias, one brother, Eugene (Shannon) Tanner of Holland, Gregory Murray of Virginia, Rickey Murray of Pittsburgh, PA three sisters , Sharon (Bishop Andre) Massenburg of Houston, TX, Juanita Patton of Houston, TX, Valerie Murray of Chicago, aunts – Lillie Preston and Joyce Bailey and one uncle, Arthur “Jack” Murray, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Wake will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Filbrandt Chapel, 1076 S. Bailey Ave, South Haven, Michigan, with the Funeral Service following at 12:00pm. Bishop Andre Massenburg will officiate. Odell will be laid to rest at Covert Cemetery. The family is being helped by Filbrandt Chapel-Starks Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services.
