Mary's Obituary

Mary Louise Luke, 86, of Granger, formerly Buchanan, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at BellTower Memory Care, Granger.

A celebration of life service will be held at noon on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan with Pastor H. Quincy Watts of Lively Stone Ministries, Buchanan, officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan. Visitation will take place one hour prior, from 11am-noon, also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Mary’s name may be made to the BellTower Memory Care Unit, 5805 N. Fir Rd. Mary was born on January 18, 1938, to Leslie and Carolyn (Raas) Froeber in Stevensville. She graduated from St. Joseph High School, class of 1955. On July 9, 1955, she married the love of her life, Robert L. Luke.

In her professional life, Mary held positions at Whirlpool, Electro-Voice, Simplicity Pattern Co., and Fapco where she dedicated nearly thirty years before retiring, continuing to work into her 80’s. Renowned for her strong work ethic and generosity, Mary was remarkably independent and had a multitude of talents. Some of these included her skill in crafting, proficiency as a seamstress and prowess in the kitchen as an excellent cook.

Mary was actively involved in various community endeavors. She loved volunteering at the ticket booth during the Berrien County 4-H Fair and managing admissions at numerous school sporting events. Mary took pleasure in outdoor activities, meticulously maintaining her lawn and flower garden and opting to push mow her lawn well into her 80’s. Mary was an avid bowler and Notre Dame fan, as well as a softball coach and Boy Scouts den mother for Troop 70. Mary enjoyed bingo, going to the boat and frequenting garage sales and flea markets, collecting antiques.

Most of all, she was a proud and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She never missed an event and always lovingly supported her family in their pursuits.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Rick) Johnson; son, Robert M. (Brenda) Luke; grandchildren, Sara Luke, Marcus (Nicole) Johnson, Steven (Britni) Luke, Mathue (Amy) Johnson, Jenna Luke; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Abbi, Brock, Emery, Daiden, Eli, Maylee, Meladee, Quinn, Ashlyn, Sierra and Jordyn; step-granddaughter, Kari (Pat) Dyer; step-great-grandchildren, Johnna and Alex. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Carolyn Froeber; beloved husband, Robert L. Luke; son, David Luke and siblings, Donald Froeber, Richard Froeber and Betty Virgil.
