Larry's Obituary

Larry Figel, 71, of Eau Claire, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 10, 2022, at his home after a brief battle with cancer. His beloved wife, Janet, was by his side.

Larry was born on October 26, 1950, to Paul and Kathryn (Prokopchuck) Figel in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He was raised in Eau Claire, and a Class of 1969 Eau Claire High School graduate. Cruising Henry’s in 1969, he met Janet Sisson where her 1970 455 GTO beat his ‘69 Chevelle SS. On April 28, 1973, he ultimately won when he and Janet married. Together, they happily raised their family in Eau Claire.

Larry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janet Figel; son, Jason (Michelle) Figel of Berrien Center and daughter, Jamie (Matt) Ferry of Eau Claire; “Pops” to grandchildren Deven, Easton, Matt Jr. and Dylan. Sister-in-law Cindy Figel, sister-in-law Deb Harp, brother-in-law Mike Sisson, plus nine loving nieces who will all miss his infectious smile. Preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Kathryn Figel, brother, Paul Figel and infant sister, Sandy Figel. Father and Mother-in-law, Bob and Vera Sisson.

Larry worked for Gast in both Bridgman and Benton Harbor, where he retired after 38 years. He loved to travel and explore new places. Larry would spend weeks studying maps and always taking various new routes. He was an avid golfer and Notre Dame fan, attending many football games. More than anything, Larry loved spending time with his family. He would often be found attending and cheering at his grandson’s football, basketball, and baseball games.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 14, 2022, from 3:00 – 6:00 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 15, 2022, at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church on 51841 Leech Road in Dowagiac. Burial immediately follows at Caldwell cemetery in Eau Claire.
