LaRae's Obituary
LaRae Ann Plumb, age 77, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024, at her home on Berrien Springs, Michigan, with family by her side.
LaRae was born September 22, 1947, in Mankato, Minnesota, to Stanley Edwin and Lorraine May (Hoffman) Plumb.
When the family moved to Michigan in 1961, LaRae held her parakeet, Pretty Bird, on her lap for the entire trip. She started high school in New Troy but graduated from Berrien Spring High School in 1965. Go Shamrocks!
LaRae earned her degree in education at Western Michigan University. Several summers were dedicated to finishing her Masters in the Arts of Teaching at Andrews University in 1984.
LaRae taught in the Seventh-day Adventist school system for 43 years in Michigan, Indiana, Colorado and Illinois. She retired in 2013 from North Shore Adventist Academy in Chicago. In 2001 she was awarded the Teach of the Year for the Illinois Conference.
LaRae, loved teaching 1st and 2nd grades. She was known for her calm patience and lovely smile. Many of her former students invited her to their graduations, weddings and baby showers.
Family was very central in her life. She would drive to her parents and sister during the holidays and summers to visit relatives.
LaRae explored places in 34 states before expanding her travels to Haiti, France, Monaco, Switzerland, Russia, Estonia and Sweden.
Surviving LaRae are her siblings: Stanley Gene (Jeane) Plumb, Michael Allan (Vivian) Plumb, Maureen Joanne Plumb, and Janet Lee (Ted) Oles, 8 nephews and nieces, 23 great nephews and nieces, 5 great-great nephews and nieces and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
LaRae’s parents, Stanley Edwin and Lorraine May (Hoffman) Plumb, and a great-great nephew Eli Graham Oles, preceded her death.
A private inurnment was held at Rose Hill Cemetery followed by a memorial service on November 10th, 2024 at Village Seventh-day Adventist Church.
The family wished to thank her caregivers: Maureen Plumb, her niece, Sara Land and Therha Vine. We thank Caring Circle Hospice for their support and loving care.
