George's Obituary

George W. Nespital, 102, of Buchanan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Woodland Terrace, Niles.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan. Visitation will be one hour prior from noon- 1pm also at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Monday, November 22, 2021, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, with full military honors rendered by the Buchanan American Legion and the United States Navy. Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Circle Hospice or First Presbyterian Church of Buchanan. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.swemchapel.com.

George was born on August 17, 1919, to George C. and Ella (Zabel) Nespital in Chicago, IL. He graduated from High School in Chicago and honorably served in the United States Navy during WWII. Professionally, George worked as an engineer at Clark Equipment, retiring after many years of service. He married Mildred L. Miller, and from this union were two children. She passed away and on October 17, 1973, he married Geraldine “Jerry” St. Marie in Buchanan. He and Jerry were faithful members at First Presbyterian Church of Buchanan, supporting the yearly salad/casserole lunch held at the church. George also served as a greeter, usher and deacon over the years. George was also a longtime member of the Moose Lodge #449, Buchanan, serving as the secretary/treasurer for 25 years and as a past governor. He was very involved in the community, also being a member of the Buchanan American Legion Post 51 and volunteering with RAM.

George was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling. He had a great sense of humor and maintained a high spirit and good attitude, often passing that to others with his jokes and wonderful stories. Most of all, George cherished time spent with his family, especially during the holidays which he loved.

George is survived by his children, Patricia Waltz, David Nespital, Joe (Tere) Coffel, Terry (Jerry) Ravish and Roger (Barbara) Coffel; son-in-law, Mike Balos; thirteen grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ella Nespital; first wife, Mildred Nespital; second wife, Jerry Nespital; daughter, Evelyn Balos; daughter-in-law, Diane Nespital and grandsons, Daniel L. Ravish and Aaron Coffel.
