Emily's Obituary

Emily Rudman Weisser passed away on May 7, 2022 in St. Joseph, following both a long illness and a tragic accident.

Emily was born in St. Joseph on May 27, 1982 to William Rudman and Lynda Tolen, both of Stevensville. The older of two daughters, Emily was blessed with a keen intellect, an adventurous spirit and a charming personality. She attended school locally before transferring to Leelenau School in Glen Arbor as a sophomore, where she graduated with honors in 2000. She then attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor from 2000-2005, where she majored in Microbiology and enjoyed a junior year abroad in Perth, Australia. Upon completing her program in Perth, Emily spent a month of independent travel in Thailand where she learned much about the people, food and culture of the Thai people.

In October of 2012, Emily gave birth to her precious daughter, Liliya Wright, whom she cherished.

Emily contracted an insidious, chronic illness in early 2020, which led to much suffering and disability. Nevertheless, she was blessed to be able to walk down the aisle with her father and marry a wonderful husband, Andrew Weisser, on November 20th of last year in a moving, heartfelt ceremony. Emily and Andy had met in high school and became reacquainted five years ago. Upon her marriage, Emily gained three dear stepsons, Max, Axel, and Jaxon.

Emily loved hiking and camping with her Dad in the U.P. and Isle Royale, as well as with Andy and the kids on his little island in mid-Michigan. She was fond of big extended family vacations here in Michigan as well as Tennessee, Chicago and Florida. She was an accomplished writer, avid sci-fi reader, music lover, committed vegetarian and animal lover.

Emily is survived by Andy, Liliya, Max, Axel and Jaxon of St. Joseph, sister Alyson (Will) Grattan of Grand Rapids, parents William Rudman and Lynda Tolen of Stevensville, Mark Wright of Coloma, numerous Tolen, Rudman and Weisser aunts and uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces, as well as many friends and loved ones whose lives she touched over the years.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held on Sunday, May 22nd from 1-3 p.m. at the Lincoln Township Community Center, 5575 S. Roosevelt Rd., Stevensville.
