Apre"sha's Obituary

Apre’Sha Ward, lovingly known as “NANA” was born May 29, 1994 to Mary Kay Green and James Black in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Our beautiful Apre’Sha left us unexpectedly on June 19, 2022.

Nana received her formal education with the Benton Harbor school System and was a proud graduate of the class of 2012. She was doing what she loved…working in the field of health care in her employment as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Pine Ridge Rehabilitation Center. Nana also earned a Medical and Billing Code Certificate and was continuing her education at Lake Michigan college pursing a degree as a Registered Nurse. Her beautiful smile and big heart were a blessing to anyone that knew her. If you knew Nana…. you had to love her! She was always willing to help anyone that crossed her path! She will always be our “Ms. Petty Boots” …Lord knows she would say anything that came to mind right in the middle of the conversation, she’d make a joke. Then while you were laughing, she’d have an innocent look on her face that said, “What I say?” Nana lived for her two boys and would move mountains to keep them happy…. everything she did to better life was for them. She united with New Bethel in 2020 under the leadership of Pastor Maurice L. McAfee and enjoyed the preaching and teaching of God’s Word.

Apre’Sha will always be cherished in the hearts of her sons, Amere L. Cook-Ward and Alek J. Ward; her mothers, Mary Kay Green and Annette Ward; siblings, Tina C. Green, Tamico Ward, Jamey C. Black, Antonio Green and David Ward, all of Benton Harbor; loving friends, Dannell Ewing, Jr., Markia Cannon and Shanice Lewis; her Traveling Cousins, Deja Farmer and Jonnitha Robinson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Black; maternal grandparents, Ira Green, Sr., and Freddie Mae (Dillard) Green; paternal grandparents, Barbara and John Black, Jr.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022, at 11AM at Second Baptist Church, 600 Donald Adkins Dr., Benton Harbor, with Rev. Maurice McAfee officiating. Burial will follow at Crystal Springs cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10AM until time of service at the church.
